"Effect of weave design on fire retardancy of Woven fabric".
The study was aimed to check the effect of weave design on flame retardancy. A flame retardant finish was applied to the fabrics and tensile, tear strength and fire retardancy were noted. The mechanical testing of all samples was conducted before and after the application of finish. Considering the tensile strength of the fabrics, before and after finish, it is concluded that the tensile strength decreases in both warp and weft direction after the application of finish. The tr ends were same for all the materials (cotton, PC and CVC) and all the GSM categories (low, medium and heavy). Similarly results were obtained for the tear strength of all the samples. The flame retardancy reported in terms of weight loss %age depicts that the plain woven fabrics offer too much retardance against the fire, giving a low mass loss %age as compared to twill and satin fabrics. In case of material it is the CVC fabric that offers the highest resistance against fire compared to PC and cotton. Upon increasing the GSM, fire retardancy also increases in case of all materials and weaves.
