Focus of study: internal ballistics including gun tube design, external ballistics including 6 degree of freedom calculations, chemistry and manufacturing of explosives, explosive and terminal ballistic effects, weapon and ammunition design and statistics

Throughout the course use was made of advanced computer modelling for internal and external ballistics using PRODAS modelling software

Focus of study: Applied physics including the study of physical optics, optical design software and design of optical systems.

Additional courses focused on mathematics, electronics, nuclear engineering, quantum physics, atomic and photon physics, wave phenomena, harmonic oscillators, and principles of semiconductors

Laboratories were utilized for experiments with lasers and optical communications, computer systems, digital logic systems, circuits and solid-state electronics

While serving for over 13 years as an Officer in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
I voluntarily released at the rank of Major, after serving in a variety of positions executing the following tasks:

• Project management for equipment and technical services including procurement and

• Writing technical letters, test plans and safety assessments of ammunition and
explosives as a Qualified Ammunition Technical Authority
• Performing Systems Engineering activities for communication systems hardware
installations in land based weapons systems and vehicles

officer with land formation headquarters
• Delivering technical instruction and course activities related to equipment management,
military administration and writing
• Managing civilian and military personnel including administration and performance
evaluations

• Leading and managing a land technical workshop responsible for the provision of
vehicle and equipment repairs
• Managing safety and evaluating work place safety programs including the conduct of
accident investigations

The course covered the fundamentals behind efficient and effective procurement and bid evaluation strategies for the government of Canada. Various bid evaluation techniques were reviewed and practical training was provided using a multiple case studies.

This course builds on the fundamentals of project management by using case studies to develop skills required to effectively manage projects. Microsoft Project basics were also introduced.

This course provides the foundation for sound project management. As an introductory course to project management the course covers the basic element of the PMBOK including all elements required to develop a project management plan including risk a risk management plan.

This course covers the basics for developing an effective business plan.

The course covers the expected and mandated activities of a unit´s workplace safety program for the . Participants gain detailed knowledge of workplace safety requirements and learn the objective methods used to evaluate and report on the program.

The course provides the requisite skills and knowledge to execute the duties of a general safety officer for the . These duties include conducting safety inspections, safety briefs, accident investigations, completing incident and accident reports and maintaining the safety program of a unit.

The purpose of the course is to educate participants on the framework of an effective safety management program. While other courses provide the knowledge and skills of a workplace general safety officer or program evaluator, this course teaches the fundamentals of the Department´s safety program and goals.
